GSL3 – Foreigners Participating

There are a bunch of non-Korean players heading to Korea to participate in the third season of the Global Starcraft II League. I suppose it is a bit silly to label these players as Foreigners or treat their participation any differently, but hey, we just can’t help ourselves. The following are confirmed to be participating:

iNcontroL
Huk
Kiwikaki
MYM.Artosis
IdrA
Sen
Ret
Haypro
Jinro
Tasteless
TorcH
SeleCT
Loner

I really can’t wait for the qualifications to be over so we can jump back into the fun of watching the games from the Round of 64 live. Keep checking back here in the days to come for more on the GSL3!

Coach Won Of STARTALE Interview

Fomos.kr have a really interesting interview up with Coach Won. He has apparently been working in ‘other fields’ for the last 32 months since leaving WeMade Fox in 2008, but has now returned, as many knew he would.  He is now the coach of team STARTALE  and shares the team with popular players such as HopeTorture(IntoTheRainbow) and JulyZerg. STARTALE has promised us big things and this interview can give you a little taste of what’s to come, and a bit of insight into the life of a Korean Starcraft II Team Coach. BoxeR GSL2

BoxeR Set To Create SlayerS – sls

I recently spoke about BoxeR’s personal sponsorship from none other than Intel and the funds he was given to form a new Starcraft II team. BoxeR has posted on his twitter account that he is making his own clan named SlayerS, or sls for short. Apparently, and I am not sure I get this, the requirement is anyone over 1800 rating in Diamond league to join, although this requirement may change as ratings fluctuate. BoxeR did also note that he is not going to take in anyone who already belongs to a clan or a team.

So that is pretty interesting. I assume the low requirement to join is so that he can scout up and coming talent out via this team, try pick up the new big thing in Korea? Who knows. I really do hope to hear more about this soon, keep checking back here!

WeMadeFox.Moon Interview

FNATIC.com has an interesting interview up with big name, or huge name rather, Warcraft III Pro-Gamer Moon. In the interview they discuss all manner of things but, as expected, as I am talking about it here, it does lean heavily to the Starcraft II side of things. He talks about his participation in the GSL and how serious he plans on taking Starcraft II in the future. Enjoy!

Activision/Blizzard’s Big Plans?

Is the heavyweight Activision/Blizzard getting ready to reveal plans for a paid online multiplayer service for games like StarCraft II and Call of Duty: Black Ops? That’s what Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter continues to believe. IndustryGamers.com reports that Pachter stated the following a few days ago today,

“We expect the company to announce plans to monetize online multiplayer content in Black Ops, StarCraft II and other games before year-end”

Now that I am not sure about. Unless Blizzard releases something like.. say the Map Marketplace for Starcraft II? Would that count? Pachter apparently made similar predictions recently but so far nothing has come of them. Pachter did however state the following in an interview with IndustryGamers earlier this week,

“I truly think the biggest surprise will be the launch of a premium service offering multiplayer online gaming. The publishers all are looking at this, and I think one of them will be bold enough to announce such a service by year-end. I’ll be surprised if the price is low, and equally surprised if gamers accept it without complaint.”

Do you think Activision / Blizzard have something big planned or is this analyst just full of it? Let me know what you think below! Thanks to Bigdownload for the news!

A Rant About The Way Things Are In The West

Sk-Gaming has a pretty, um, interesting article up about how the Western Countries eSports sites, that’s everyone outside of South Korea to us Starcraft fans, are ruining the Starcraft II experience for everyone. It’s an interesting piece and the writer claims that websites should show more finesse in posting results for tournaments, players joining clans or anything else concerning Starcraft II. Now I can understand how some people feel that titles of articles and the likes spoil the results of games for them but still… I just think that the writer of the article was a bit extreme with his views on the matter and a little quick with his judgements. You can read the entire thing below and let me know if you feel the same or in fact agree with it. Enjoy!

Huk Wins eG Masters Cup – Loses To IdrA

The Evil Geniuses Masters Cup was completed this past weekend with fan favourite Protoss player HuK battling his way to the top. After winning the normal tournament HuK had the opportunity to test his metal against eG’s own Zerg hero IdrA. IdrA took that best of 5 series with a pretty close 3 to 2. Sadly for HuK that does mean that he does in fact not walk away with that amazing MSI Notebook, he did still win 1000$ so I guess it’s not all bad. The GSL2 is plodding along and is still busy with its round of 8 games. Yes, amazing that these things go by so fast, soon there will be only four players left! Before that happens, though, there will be one of the most anticipated games ever in Starcraft II. Tomorrow we will see SlayerS_BoxeR take on none other than oGsNaDa! I simply can’t wait for that game. I will most definitely try tune in and catch it live. An Official BoxeR quote on his return to competitive gaming:

“Progamers who play for money has his occupational obligations to excite his fans. I was only able to so far disappoint them since my return from Airforce. I have no intentions of repeating that mistake and I will pursue new challenges and keep chasing the dream I wanted to achieve.”

On his entry into the GSL2:

“By entering this GSL Season2, I will be stepping my first step on a new field of challenges. I wish to be one of the pioneers of new era of SC2 which holds infinite possibilities and growth.

As I start my life in SC2, although I will try my great best, but there will be times of disappointment and letdowns. I want you to cheer for me regardless, but not just for me. I want you to cheer for others who also have set their foot on this new starting point. The new field of challenges… The very word “New” have put great strengths in my mind.

I want this fire, strength and excitement to be felt by all the fans and I will try my best for it. This is my ultimate goal as a Pro-gamer in his 30’s, different from my goals at 20’s. I haven’t quit as a Pro-gamer. I’m merely moving onto SC2.”
