We’re pleased to introduce the Grapeling, Applelord, and Bananalisk, and hope you will join us in congratulating Fruit Dealer!

5000 Accounts Banned

5000 Accounts Banned

The hackers are finally getting what they deserve. Blizzard recently dropped the ban hammer on 5000, probably unsuspecting, Starcraft II players. This is the first of many waves of bans that Blizzard will be throwing out and, obviously, I think it’s a good thing. You can find the full quote from Blizzard below. Enjoy!

We recently took action, including suspensions and bans, on over 5,000 StarCraft II players who were in violation of the Battle.net Terms of Use for cheating and/or using hack programs while playing. In addition to undermining the spirit of fair competition that’s essential to play on Battle.net, cheating and hacking can lead to stability and performance issues with the service. Maintaining a stable, safe, and secure online-gaming experience for legitimate players is a top priority for us, and we’ll be continuing to keep watch on Battle.net and take action as needed.

New Real ID Settings Available

A new set of Real ID options have been unlocked by Blizzard. These were instated because of all the complaints about the dangers of having your full name and surname available for all to see on Battle.net. You can now disable the friends of friends adding feature aswell as the facebook friend adding feature on you Battle.net account. You can also totally disable the Real ID feature, if that tickles your fancy. See the official quote below.

New Battle.net Privacy Settings

We’d like to make you aware of the new Real ID-related privacy options we’ve introduced to Battle.net. These options provide Real ID users with additional tools for customizing the service based on their preferences, enabling the ability to opt in or out of the Real ID “Friends of Friends” and “Add Facebook Friends” features or to turn off Real ID altogether.

To access these settings, log in to your Battle.net account at http://www.battle.net/account. From there, click on the “Settings” tab located at the center of the Account Management menu and select “Communication Preferences” from the dropdown list. The new settings can be found in the “Privacy” section of the Communication Preferences page.

The Happy Ultralisk

The Happy Ultralisk

An interesting thread was posted on the TeamLiquid forums recently containing some very, um, unique artwork. The artwork in the thread is a cartoon of sorts about an Ultralisk and his adventures through the various balance changes afflicting it’s kind recently. It’s really entertaining and quite touching and definitely worth checking out. I must warn you all though, it’s pretty long. See the link to the thread below!

Fruitseller Wins GSL

Fruitseller (Cool) Wins GSL

The long running Global Starcraft League has finally come to an end with the Korean Kim “FruitDealer” Won-Gi taking the first place. The Zerg player faced off against the Terran HopeTorture in the finals and managed to take it with an impressive 4-1. With the win, Kim takes around 85,000 US Dollars home and the second place finisher around 30,000 US Dollars. Impressive! I watched the livestream of the finals and I have to say the games were absolutely amazing. A definite must see. Justin.tv Charity Tournament

Justin.tv has organized a special Starcraft II tournament that is set to collect money for the Child’s Play Organisation. The tournament is happening tomorrow and will be running 4v4 and 2v2’s. it seems like they have also picked up some amazing sponsors for the event including Alienware, Razer, Astro Gaming, Jinx Clothing. The teams taking part will come from companies such as Yammer, Smule, Flickr, Twitter, YouTube, IGN, Justin.TV and more. I think this is really a great thing that Justin.tv is doing. It may not be the highest skilled tournament but it will probably be tons of fun and is definitely for a good cause.

A new Korean Starcraft II team has been created. Its name is  IM, which stands for “Incredible Miracle.” It includes four ex-Starcraft 1 pro-gamers: ZergBong, MVP, TT, and Losira. Apparently these players not the biggest of names in Starcraft 1 but there are hopes of big things for them in Starcraft II. See more over at TeamLiquid, below.

BoxeR vs IdrA

I also didn’t believe it at first but it seems like Boxer, The Genius Terran, The Emporer himself is playing Starcraft II. Artosis recently got his hands on a replay of IdrA facing off against him on the ladder. The game is amazing and Boxer… well let’s just say I don’t think anyone has a chance when Boxer starts playing Starcraft II properly. Check it out below!

Player and Clan news

Player And Clan News

As usual there is no shortage of drama in the international Starcraft II Community. There are transfers, rants and interviews. Read about everything that’s been happening right here!

Idra Talks About Patch 1.1

The Zerg Starcraft II Pro IdrA shared his feelings on the state of Starcraft II before and after Patch 1.1. He mentions how he thinks the patch won’t change enough in terms of balance and that Blizzard are overlooking too many obvious problems. See the full interview below.

HuK To Liquid – HuK To Korea

The highly successful big name Protoss player HuK has left the clan of Millenium and moved to Liquid. Not just for any reason though, he is also, like so many others, making the move to Korea to pursue his Starcraft II Pro Gaming Carreer. There is obviously a lot to be learnt there for Starcraft II players or any gamers for that matter. That much is evident after seeing all the foreigners being knocked out of the GS2L. You can read an interview with HuK about the matter and see the full details below or over at TeamLiquid.

Fruitseller Drama

Cool, (aka Fruiseller, aka Fruitdealer) has been causing quite a stir. He was caught totally out of character, totally uncool, recently when asked about Starcraft II’s first balance patch, 1.1. He said quite a few incredibly hateful things and seemed on the verge of a breakdown. Luckily, a couple of hours later he changed his tune and said that he was alright with the new changes and was definitely coping. You should all do yourselves the favour of reading the translated quotes in the link below. Enjoy!

After four weeks the contests entries are now closed and GosuGamers have a post up with all of the entries that made the final cut. First Altitude TeamLiquid Open #1 (EU Server)

As you can see below it seems like TeamLiquid is getting into the tournament business. Their first open tournament boasts an impressive prize poll of $500 and is set to take place on September the 18th! Known ‘pro’ Starcraft II players will be able to register before the general public. You can read more about that over at the thread on the TeamLiquid Forums.
TeamLiquid is proud to announce our first TL Open, a 512 player open registration tournament run entirely through our website. This will hopefully be the first of many TL Opens. Each one will alternate between the EU and US servers and have individual sponsors. The first tournament will be held on the Europe server, and anyone with an EU battle.net account can enter.

The Altitude TL Open #1 will be held on Saturday, Sep 18 10:00pm KST[local].
Check-in will begin 30 minutes before the tournament starts.

Blizzard Talks About “Guest Mode” and “Offline Mode”

Blizzard has a handy little post up that covers, in detail, everything you can expect from the ‘Guest’ and ‘Offline’ modes in Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty. There are a few things here that I didn’t know myself. Like the fact that in Guest Modes you can pretty much do it all, except play multiplayer or get achievements!

New Starcraft Dream Team

Former BroodWar player and MBCGame HERO coach Lee has decided to put together a team of some of the bigger names in the Korean Pro-scene. Now, while I don’t know many of the Korean Starcraft II Pro’s, I do know Tester and Cool. That said, as of now, the newly formed roster of team TSL (Team SCV Life) is as follows:
  • sSKS (a.k.a. Tester)
  • FruitSeller (a.k.a. Cool[fOu])
  • Clide
It’s looking pretty impressive and this new team is probably worth keeping an eye on! See the full post over at GosuGamers.
