If you are having the error in the title then I recommend you download the following application, install it, run Starcraft II and kiss those problems goodbye!

HotSpotShield – Install this, run it and enjoy!

You don’t need to install any of the extras along with the program, and, well, you can even remove the program right after you’ve run the game! This method worked quite well for me, if any of you are having any other problems some people are saying deleting your cache folder works too, worth a try I guess!

Patch 1.2.0 Now Live

Starcraft II patch 1.2 is finally here! Chat channels, Master League, an extreme graphics options, new customizable hotkeys feature and a ton of interesting balance changes await those that dare to log in. The balance changes? Well, the swarm didn’t receive much work in this patch, apart from the fact that you can’t block ramps with just two pylons anymore, that’s all that needs to be said about that. Protoss see big changes to their air units including the Phoenix, Void Ray and Observer. In the last of the balance changes, terran SCV’s have had a few changes made to the way they build and move around while doing it. If you’re in any way involved in Starcraft II, I assume you’ll want to see those patch notes. You can find the full list below, enjoy!

In addition to that you can also read a quick FAQ post by the guys from over at Blizzard detailing the entire Masters League, how it works and how you can get into it. Lastly, you can also check out the apparent ‘hidden changes’ that came with 1.2. Also, there was no ladder reset, so don’t bother asking! Check all that out below.

GOMTV GSL Round of 32 Day 8 – Report – GosuGamers

GSL Hiring Casters

GOMTV has announced that they are currently recruiting new casters to commentated their Code-A match broadcasts in English. With the thousands and thousands of new casters that StarCraft II has brought into the world, many of them are probably looking for this ‘big break’. Some of the key points include that GOMtv will only pay the casters salary, not their airfare or accommodation and you will have to be able to acquire a working Visa in Korea. You can apply by submitting a VOD with your casting, these may be solo or dual commentary. It really does sound interesting and I would absolutely love to do something like that myself, but I won’t. You can read the official post below and find the address to send those VODs to.

GOMtv Open House

In the last of our GOMtv and GSL news, it seems like GOMtv is taking steps to encourage foreign players to compete in the GSL. For foreign players thinking about making the trip to Korea, the question about housing accommodations always comes into play, but today, GOMtv furthered their dedication towards this cause by announcing that a house will be made available for foreign players to stay in during their participation in the GSL. This move apparently came after GOM noticed many players having difficulty in finding a place to stay. They say the house has enough room for 8-10 players and that you’d need to send your passport along with your ladder ranking to them at gsl@gomtv.net. I have to say it is really cool that they are doing this and it really shows that they are trying to support absolutely everyone, not just their own countries Starcraft II players.

MaDFroG And SK Gaming ‘Part Ways’

SK Gaming’s first StarCraft II player and Warcraft III legend, Fredrik ‘MaDFroG’ Johansson, will be departing from the organization, due to unfortunate circumstances. Not much else was said about this parting of ways and I have to say I would be pretty shocked if I heard he was ‘let go’ instead of quitting. All that SK Gaming said was that recent circumstances have arisen and after a series of discussions, it has unfortunately been reached through mutual consensus that MaDFroG will be unable to remain with SK Gaming for 2011. Sad, sad day if you ask me. Well, good luck to MaDFroG in all his future endeavors, and, well, shame on you SK Gaming.

Life In The StarTale House

Starcraft Pro Torch and his girlfriend Seltzer recently went back to Korea after GSL 3 qualification, before christmas. During their stay they took a lot of footage of the GSL, the commentators and everything else that transpired there. Lucky for us it seems we’ve not seen it all just yet! Torch still had some content saved up finally put together a video of the StarTale house in South Korea. You can watch the video linked above and read a lot more about all of that below, courtesy of VTGaming. There are also a bunch of great photos, too. As always it is highly entertaining to see how those guys get down, worth a watch, and read!

The TotalBiscuit Story

After the little piece of news mentioned about GSL hiring casters for their Code-A games quite a few gamers suggested the one and only TotalBiscuit for the job. He did reply by saying that he won’t be applying for it, as awesome as it would be. He said that he was already fighting a legal battle to get back into the US, to be with his wife and kid again, after being apart for 2 years thanks to the irreversible decision of a single Homeland Security officer. So now, as you can expect, he can’t go running off to South Korea on a whim. He gave us a long and short version of the story, here’s the short one. He met his wife at Blizzcon in 2005, as nerds do. They kept in touch, it got serious after a couple more visits and he decided to take a chance to move to the States in 2007, so he packed up all my stuff, put the rest in storage and went to go live with her. He explains that he was at the time of his life where he felt like taking risks and was in a position to take them. So, the rest, as they say, is history. So if you want to read the full version of this heartwarming story, which I totally recommend, you can find it below. And that, my friends, would be why we won’t be seeing TotalBiscuit at the GSL casting those games.

TotalBiscuit – On The Matter Of Spectating

In one last bit of TotalBiscuit related news he recently wrote a piece on his website, CynicalBrit.com about spectating games and eSports future in general. He basically just talks about how entry-level casting, casting for the sake of entertainment, like the commentators do for live sports events on TV, is the future of eSports. Needless to say he is probably right and you can read the full thing below, it’s a great read and might put a few things in perspective for those of you that actually whine when certain casters don’t seem to make their casts technical enough.

Happy Starcrafing! 😀 I just wanted to say a few things here before getting to the news. You will realise, when you head into this rather lengthy post, that I have added a smalls section to the start of both the Tournament & Event News and Community News sections. This little summary of news posts makes it a little easier to set these posts up. I throw all the news in there that I feel is not really worth actually elaborating on in the post, while still keeping it in there for all those die-hards out there. Sooo be sure to skim over those and make sure you aren’t missing something you don’t want to miss! Otherwise, enjoy the news and thanks for all the support!

GSL – Code-S / Code-A

The GSL play-days are flying by fast and we are being treated with more and more extremely high quality play. There really have been some amazing games, but, there have also been a few upsets. So let’s have a look how all our favourite Code-S and Code-A players are doing. There is an amazing thread up on the TeamLiquid forums that was put together by a user named motbob and well, look no further for your GSL results.

In the Code-A big names such as IMJunwi, aLivefOu, oGsTOP, sCfOu, Loner and ST.July. have made it through to the next round. Well known players that failed to advance in the Code-A include TankboyPrime.WE, ST.Ace and LiquidRet.

Players that have advanced to the next round in Code-S are IMNesTea, TheBestfOu, IMMvp, oGsZenio, SlayerS_BoxeR, oGsHyperdub, choyafOu,  TSL.sSKS, NSP.Genius, ST.RainbOw, oGsMC and finally oGsNaDa.The Code-S has not been without upset, though. The following big names failed to progress – Polt & MakaPrime, The Fruitdealer, who lost to IMMvp and oGsZenio, HongUnPrime, oGsTheWind, KyrixZenith, TSL_Rain, LeenockfOu, sanZenith and oGsInca.

There are more matches to be played tomorrow, so as I mentioned, if you check the post linked below out you will get a much clearer picture of what’s going on right now. It really is well put together and gives all the right information. Keep checking back here for more GSL updates, though.

GSL Official Map Change Coming Soon

In some more GSL related news, GSL Code-S pro-gamer NSPGenius posted a thread on PlayXP about an upcoming, and official, GSL map change. According to NSPGenius, the four bad maps that are set to be pulled out from GSL maplist are Steppes of War, Delta Quadrant, Blistering Sands and one last unknown one. The maps set to replace those maps are the following: Aiur Garden, Tal’Darim Altar, Biohazard, Crossfire and Terminus Re. According to a reply from GSL staff it seems like the Gisado Star-Challenge is now testing the new maps for next GSL season. I guess we will just have to wait and see if these new ones will actually get used, or if Blizzard will step in and step up with their maps. Who knows, see images of the new maps below along with the full quotes, enjoy!

GOMtv Send Your Favourite Player To Korea

GOMtv has sent out a request to the community seeking their opinions on which foreigners to invite to participate in the next season of the GSL, starting in February. They let us know, in the same quote, that there will be at least four spots to fill. This means that players who cannot play in the preliminaries or were not able to win a spot in the qualification has still the chance to play in the Global StarCraft 2 League’s main event. So if you are keen to help out or just see what others are saying you can head on over to the GOMtv support forums to check it out.

eG Recruit DeMusliM & Promises GSL Action

One of the bigger pieces of player and clan news of the past week is that eG bought DeMusliM out of his running contract with mTw in order to add him to their already impressive Starcraft II line-up. eG already currently homes several stars of the RTS scene such as Starcraft II Badboy IdrA, Warcraft III legend Grubby and many others. DeMusliM released an official statement about the transfer that basically just said he was thrilled to be part of eG and that he was glad that the guys from mTw took it so well and supported him throughout. You can read the full details of the transfer below along with DeMusliM’s full statement.

Right after this it was announced that eG have plans to set up a house in South Korea where their players would be able to prepare for and compete in competitions such as the Global Starcraft 2 League and the Global Starcraft 2 Team League. Aditionally, it was revealed that they would in fact be sending Benjamin “Demuslim” Baker to South Korea to participate in the future qualification rounds of the GSL. These articles and quotes are definitely worth a read, they even compare Desmuslim’s marketability to another famous European player’s, Grubby. Read all of that below, enjoy!

Starcraft II In Western eSports: Is A Korean Model Needed?

FNATIC recently published an article by Marc ‘frequency’ Onofrio where he argues that there is no need for StarCraft II to be televised in the West for it to gain mainstream popularity and success. He claims that online streaming is a far more efficient and logical way to push the game in the right direction. He says he’d love to hear your opinions on the topic, and any general feedback/questions. It is an interesting concept and, well, one that is actually quite often mentioned and talked about. Obviously streaming and online is the way forward, the whole world can be involved in absolutely any event from absolutely anywhere. But, it’s just not the same as a live event, is it? Ah well, if you are interested, check that out below, definitely worth a read!

ESL TV: RotterdaM University

The chief of Intel Extreme Masters, Michal ‘Carmac’ Blicharz, is set to be featured in a new show on ESL TV where he will go from a total noob to a Diamond player. How, you ask? Well this will be done with the help of  Kevin ‘RotterdaM’ van der Kooi. The show will be called RotterdaM University and will follow the process of the former WarCraft III  legend RotterdaM teaching Carmac every little thing he needs to know about StarCraft II. Carmac is a well-known eSports journalist, having worked for sites as SK-Gaming and Global Gaming League, but, one thing is certain, he sucks at Starcraft II. So you can watch the incredibly funny trailer for the show above and read more about it in the links below. The first episode is set to air sometime in the month of January.

As you all probably heard by now, Patch 1.2 is being tested on the newly implemented Public Test Region, or PTR, for Starcraft II. The patch was set to make a few rather large changes to Starcraft II, changes that a lot of players apparently voiced their concerns about. In response, Bashiok announced via the Official Starcraft II forums that  some of the changes would be rolled back to their previous states. It seems like Blizzard was, with these changes at least, just poking around a bit to see what the players would think or how they would perform under live circumstances. I guess that this means, if anything, that the PTR is doing its job.

You can find the reverted changes in the quote below. Below that you can also find the previously announced 1.2 patch notes.

We would like to thank everyone for their participation thus far in the first StarCraft 2 public test. We’re in the process of temporarily taking down the PTR in order to apply changes based on your feedback and testing.

Some of the changes we’re working on implementing:

  • Bunker build time reduction removed as previously noted
  • Fungal Growth’s terrestrial limitation has been removed and the ability once again affects air units
  • It will once again be possible to hold down a key to repeat a hotkey command

This down time is expected to start tomorrow at noon, 12:01 p.m. PST and last for approximately 2-3 days. Keep an eye on this forum for updates on when you can rejoin the Public Test Region and begin testing the newest changes. Thanks for your help!
Bashiok, Blizzard Entertainment

Heaven’s Devils: Lost Transmissions

Blizzard have an interesting and informative post up on the Official Starcraft II website. The first of four parts of the Heaven’s Devils: Lost Transmissions will reveal previously unreleased communications between UNN reporters Max Speer and Michael Liberty. Each broadcast is set to offer a glimpse into the maneuverings of both the Confederacy and the outlaws James Raynor and Tychus Findlay, formerly of the Heaven’s Devils. Blizzard said they thought that this ‘behind the scenes look’ would be fun and interesting for everyone. I can’t say I disagree.

GSL3 – Round of 8

This week the GSL3 moved into and completed its Round of 8. In the first play day we saw TSL.Rain take IMNesTea out with a score of 3 to 2 and HongUngPrime.WE beat former champ TSL.FruitDealer with a score of 3 to 2. Sadly, that marked the departure of the last two zergs from the GSL Season 3. In the second play day we saw oGsMC beat  MarineKing down with a MarineKing with a score of 3 to 1 and LiquidJinro take choyafOu down with a score of 3 to 2. The games in the round of 8 were, as expected, totally amazing to watch and it is impressive to note that Jinro is the first foreigner to make it as far as the Round of 4 in the history of the GSL. You can find full recounting of the two play days of the Round of 8 below courtesy of TeamLiquid.

EPS Finals Overload – Socke Wins

The EPS finals have been concluded and there has been an overload of information surging in over the past  few days. The most important and probably most interesting piece being that Socke managed to win. Yes indeed, the German ESL Pro Series found its champion on Sunday, December 5th. The protoss player Socke faced off against the terran playing ClouD and managed to defeat him with a score of 2 to 0. This means Socke walks away with a whopping 3,000 Euros and a rather impressive notch on his belt. Read more about the event below and see various interviews and photos, too.

Tour of Duty EU #1 – White-Ra Wins

White-Ra came out as the victor of the first European Tour of Duty this weekend. He took down NightEnD in the grand final with a score of 1 to 0. Yes, all the rounds / games of the entire event were best of 1, interesting! You can read about when the next one is set to happen and you can also read a rather interesting quote I read on GosuGamers concerning this.

The next Tour of Duty will be on the 9th of December and is the second US based run, which means you will require a US Battle.net account to be able to participate. For a prize pool of around 500$ I think it might well be worth trying, though!

Jinro Wallpaper

Liquid Weekly #19

The 19th Liquid Weekly is up and this week there is, understandably, a big focus on their last hope in the GSL, Jinro. Other than that you can also get a cute wallpaper, as seen above, of none other than Jinro and read more about the 2v2v2v2 showmatch that Jinro won alongside TLO. Yes, indeed, a lot of Jinro news. Check it all out below!

MouzMax Interview

GosuGamers have an interview up with the manager of the mouz clan, Max. With their recent run of victories the guys from over at mouz are apparently seriously considering sending some of their players over to Korea to participate in the next season of the GSL. Other than that they talk about the players in the clan, the SC2CL and the reasons that they think they are in fact the strongest team outside of Korea right now.

GGvision #9 – Dreamhack Edition

Sebastian from over at PolygonreVue has uploaded the 9th episode of his new and ever entertaining series, GG Vision. It really did seem like a great deal of fun and I urge you all to check it out, along with all the other amazing videos on the PolygonreVue channel. Enjoy!

Starcraft II Patch 1.2

Good news everyone! Well, sort of at least. Patch 1.2 for Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty is now being tested on the Public Test Region. Yes, there is a Public Test Region for Starcraft II now. The big changes and additions include chat channels being added and Stalemate Detection is being tested. Also, they have added the Master League, which is the top percentage of the players from any region. Dont confuse this with the Grandmaster League, though, which will be the Top 200 players. There were some other slightly smaller, slightly questionable changes, too. You can no longer just hold a key down, as zerg, to spawn multiple units, Fungal Growth no longer hits air units and you can no longer block a ramp with only two Pylons.

These are some really, really big changes and I hope they go down well with all the Starcraft II players out there It is good to see Blizzard testing them first, at least. You can check the full patch notes below and get a lot more information about undocumented changes and the PTR below, enjoy!
